Invisalign Dentist in Bay Ridge
If you are an adult with crooked teeth, you may feel very self-conscious about them. You could be left thinking there is nothing that can be done about it unless you have those very obvious metal braces. That is not the case at all thanks to Invisalign! Invisalign clear braces are a great alternative to traditional braces, working to gradually straighten out teeth without anybody even noticing. Millions have already turned to the invisible form of braces to straighten teeth and have been left completely satisfied with their new smiles.
What is Invisalign?
The Invisalign system is a breakthrough way of straightening out teeth without the need of brackets or wires. Instead, Invisalign uses a series of SmartTrack aligners, made with thermoplastic. It comes with a clear tray that has been designed to fit your teeth perfectly thanks to the 3D technology used to map your mouth. With each set of aligners, small changes are made to help gradually move the teeth to where they should go. This process has been clinically proven to treat a number of reasons why braces would be needed, including overcrowding and crookedness.
Who is it for?
Invisalign clear braces are great for anyone who has crooked teeth, gaps, a cross bite, an overbite, underbite, open bite, or even deep bites. Invisalign is not for everyone though, especially those with extreme crowding issues, but your Orthodontist will be able to tell you if you are a good candidate for it or not. Dr. Stuart Feintuch is one of those orthodontists in Brooklyn, NY that can provide an initial consultation to see if Invisalign is right for you.
While Invisalign was originally designed for adults who think braces are not for them, there are now options for teenagers too.
The Invisalign process
Just like traditional braces, Invisalign works by gradually moving the teeth to a straight position, except it does this without wires and metal. Instead, you get clear thermoplastic trays suited perfectly to your teeth. You will wear each set for about two weeks before moving onto the next. You could have 12 to 48 sets until you achieve your desired results.
You’ll first meet with your dentist or orthodontist, who should be a trained Invisalign provider. An examination of the teeth and mouth will be done to determine if Invisalign clear braces are best for you. If so, then you’ll be given a customized treatment plan based on the severity of the bite. At our Bay Ridge dental office, we also have the technology to show our patients a 3D demo image of what your teeth will look like after treatment.
The plan starts by creating a 3D model of the teeth based off of a digital impression that will be taken. The data is sent to dental technicians who will create the aligners to your dentist’s specifications. If your dentist approves the design, then they will be sent back to the dental office, ready for you to pick up.
When you come to pick up your Invisalign sets, you will be shown how to use them properly, and your dentist will answer any questions you may have. Each set is worn for two weeks. In that time, your teeth will be moving slightly in line with the mold. In two weeks, you will need to switch to a new set to keep the process going. It can take 12-48 thermoplastic aligners, but the average is 18-30 sets at 9-15 months to get that great smile. You’ll have follow-up appointments every two months with your orthodontist so he or she can check that the process is coming along as planned.
In the meantime, Invisalign will be virtually invisible on your teeth. You should wear them 20-22 hours for maximum effect, but you can take them off and eat and drink as normal.
Benefits of using Invisalign
The benefits of choosing Invisalign clear braces over metal braces are incredible. First of all, there is no wire, no brackets, and no metal! Not only are traditional braces extremely visible, but they’re also uncomfortable and can hurt the inside of the lips. Invisalign is easy on the mouth. Plus, you will feel more confident wearing Invisalign clear braces than traditional braces.
They’re also custom-made, so you know you are getting a product that has been specifically made just for you as there is no one-size-fits-all approach to Invisalign clear braces. This custom approach means it is a solution that will work for you. It also means that it is very comfortable. The aligners will only come to your gum line and won’t cut into them.
You can take them off whenever you need to for brushing and flossing. You can also eat as normal with no restrictions as you would often get with traditional bracket and wire braces.
